Paying rent online is a huge benefit. Not just for property owners, as we see in the results, but for renters as well. According to a report from iPropertyManagement, online rental payment adoption accelerated during the pandemic, but all signs point to it staying around as a preferred method.
This is totally unsurprising to me. Who wants to take time writing, mailing, or depositing checks these days? Paying by card is far more secure, more convenient, and — critically — more in line with the digital lifestyle that most renters have become accustomed to.
That's not to say there won't be any pushback from renters. Some prefer the old ways, but it's pretty easy to make a strong case for not accepting checks or wads of cash in envelopes.
There's nothing to say that you need to only accept online payments — making it an option, however, can significantly streamline your bookkeeping and make life a little easier for your residents.
Of course, this convenience doesn't come for free. Consider that renters who can pay online are more likely to pay, though, and there's a great business case for giving it a shot.
